Synthesis report on the implementation of the activity
Liberia is one of the countries in the world where little or no information is given to children dog language of the body and preventing the bite. Children are attacked by dogs because of lack of knowledge about dog safety and dog behavior; and for each child who is attacked; it is the dog that pays the ultimate price when euthanized. Before the establishment of dog bite prevention program in Lofa County, Liberia by the wellness & Conservation Society in partnership with Liberia animals Doggone Safe Canada, the incidence of dog bites in Lofa County among children was alarming, with community leaders allows the killing of the dogs community as a means of restricting crawling dog bite incidents. This method has not helped to reduce incidents between children until 2011 when Doggone Safe LAWCS started responsibility to educate children about dog body language and preventing the bite. Since then, there has been a drastic reduction in the number of dog bite incidents among children in the communities visited by the program. From March to 22 May 2015, the Voinjama LAWCS` visited 17 schools and volunteers Qurdu Gbondi districts and educated children from school between body language and dog bite prevention. The program has motivated children to respect dogs, and not to force the dogs in situations where they feel the need for revenge and to protect themselves. The children also learned to recognize what their family and other dogs can tell by their body language and how to respond appropriately, allowing dogs to live a stress free life and comfortable. Here is the information on the number of children affected and inspired with the program.
LAWCS management wishes to extend its deep gratitude to the management of Doggone Safe to empower us to improve the relationship between the children and their family dogs through the bite prevention program. We also thank and appreciation to all school authorities to work with us in the implementation of the program in your schools.
Anti-Pet Eat & Humane Education
Currently our program is to attract hundreds of children of each school. We use television and sometimes projector to teach humane education, including education on dog bite prevention using the Clicker Puppy training DVD.
During the program, we offer a vegan meals for all children attending the event. We deal with more than 500 children in each program.
